Security Professional Starchia’s therapeutic communication technique, along with the support of the security team, enabled medical staff to safely administer necessary medication. The patient responded positively and calmed down immediately, highlighting the significant impact of Security Professional Starchia’s approach.

An off-duty security professional found himself amid an active shooter situation at a medical building. In a sheer act of bravery, he sprang into action after hearing gunshots and began following active shooter protocol, moving room by room and directing patients and staff to safety. Heading towards danger he discovered the assailant and witnessed him shoot a female victim. He was unable to neutralize the threat with his personal weapon due to lack of a clear line of fire but was able to provide cover for doctors and nurses who attempted to save the victim’s life. Many more lives might have been lost had the security professional not put his life at risk to save others.
