A U.S. Army veteran, Allan D. Thomas joined Allied Universal in June 2018 and currently serves as Account Manager for Smith Ranch Homes in San Rafael, California. Allan, who served for 23 years in active duty and over 11 years in Army Reserves, felt a calling to serve his country and wanted to continue a family tradition. The military has played a vital role in both his immediate and extended family.

Allan first enlisted as a dental assistant in the Army Reserves in Philadelphia in 1982.  This enlistment culminated in Allan becoming a combat Medic/BN (Battalion) and Battalion Aid Station Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC.)   Allan’s service was activated while in the reserves during Desert Storm and he served as assistant to the 157th Separate Infantry Brigade Surgeon. In addition, Allan was one of the pioneering veterans who developed regulations to treat HIV-infected soldiers.

Allan became active duty in 1993 as an Indirect Fire Infantryman-Mortars and served in command level positions, ultimately retiring as the NCOIC specializing in security and IT and information security.

During his time in the military, Allan was truly honored to have received awards for his part in helping to save the lives of soldiers while stationed at Hawaii’s Pohakuloa Training Area in 1998 and for saving the life of an expectant mother involved in a serious accident with an Army Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV.)

“I really didn't want or expect an award because I did what I was supposed to do,” said Allan.  “The greatest honor of my life was being Awarded the Order of Sant Maurice by the National Infantry Association and having my picture taken on my 43rd birthday with Former President George W. Bush. Both hang proudly in my office today.”

Allan joined Allied Universal as an Account Manager for the City of Santa Fe, New Mexico and later was transferred to California and took the Account Manager position with the Napa Branch. He hopes to become a Regional Vice President in the near future.

“It is my duty as a leader to be a strong mentor and mold my Security Professionals to achieve bigger and better things within Allied Universal,” said Allan.  “I am who I am today because I stood on the shoulders of some great people that have molded, mentored me to be both a good person and great manager.”

According to Allan, his military experience such as discipline, attention to detail and time management skills has definitely influenced his career at Allied Universal.

“The greatest experience that I bring to the table is that I am a team player, and I love to help my team in any way that I can,” he said. “Giving freely to meet the common goal of one team is extremely important. We rise and fall together. Teamwork is what I am accustomed to in the military world, and I bring that to the civilian sector.”

Allan is active in several Veteran and humanitarian associations and serves as member of the National Infantry Association (NIA), Association of the United States Army (AUSA), Pioneer Association and the VFW Post 812 in El Paso, Texas.
