Educating the Healthcare Community on How to Handle Active Shooter Situations

Will you know what to do if an active shooter entered your healthcare facility?

Next week, Allied Universal is co-hosting with John Jay College and the Metropolitan Healthcare Security Directors Association (MHSDA), a “Plan to Live” seminar to educate healthcare providers on best practices to handle an active shooter situation and other threats. 

Active shooters are not the only risks that healthcare facilities face. Healthcare facilities may encounter aggressive assailants, bomb threats, and terrorist attacks. The seminar will shed light on the “pathway to violence” and how to use early detection and intervention strategies to prevent and respond to threats and violence of any nature.

Key speakers include Frank M. Ochberg, M.D., of the John Jay College Academy for Critical Incident Analysis, and a leading authority on the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Steven Crimando, Principal at Behavioral Science Applications, a consulting firm that specializes in violence prevention, crisis management and emergency response. These experts will provide insight and understanding about the psychology of predatory behavior including stalking, harassment, sabotage, intimate partner violence, terrorism and mass casualty attackers (active shooters). We are honored to partner with them and both active and retired members of the New York City Police Department to offer the healthcare community active shooter scenario survival tips and best practices for preparedness.
